St.Thomas Virgin Islands - Online Travel Guide

Located in the U.S. Virgin Islands on the eastern end of St. Thomas lies Red Hook, an unofficial town of shops, restaurants, and homes spread out across the coastline. Although not as large as the westward city of Charlotte Amalie, this area still bustles with traffic from cruise ships and ferries. Unlike the metropolis to the west, however, Red Hook enjoys a notably laid-back atmosphere, a relaxing contrast to the rest of this hotspot island.

Even with its relaxed environment, Red Hook suffers no shortage of activities for visitors. It's the perfect place to indulge in some shopping and pick up unique island treasures, perfumes, fine liquors, and jewelry, all at duty-free prices.

Visit the popular Coral World Ocean Park, located on Coki Point, for an unforgettable marine experience. Explore a fantastic underwater universe (courtesy of air helmets) with Sea Trek, or choose to stay dry and watch brightly colored fish in the Underwater Observatory. Feed the stingrays and tropical birds, or for the brave, share the water with sharks and sea turtles. The adventure here is yours to choose!

For those looking to relax on white sand or explore the ocean waters, this side of the island also features several beautiful beaches. Coki Beach, right next to Coral World Ocean Park, boasts excellent snorkeling and convenient snack shops, rental areas, and bathrooms. Visit the American Yacht Harbor, a bustling marina filled with rental boats, private yachts, sport boats, and fishing vessels. This is also the main port for ferry service to St. John and Tortola. Plan a day trip, or stay at the harbor and fish, scuba dive, kayak, or arrange nearly any other water sport imaginable. With a beach to suit every taste, hike rocky shores or simply enjoy expanses of soft sand and palm trees. At the end of the day, retreat to one of the many local restaurants or bars for a drink or two. Red Hook offers a number of casual dining options, but luxury resorts such as the Ritz Carlton provide an alternative fine dining atmosphere.

For a relaxed atmosphere on one of the Caribbean's busiest islands, visit Red Hook for a day of shopping, exploring, and swimming with sharks (or choose to commune with nature from under a palm tree on the beautiful beaches.) Travel the eastern end of St. Thomas for food, fun, shopping delights, and aquatic adventures.
