A number of hotels await your booking on St. Thomas, the busiest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands. Whether you work with a budget or choose to splurge on the biggest day of your life, there’s a spot somewhere on this 31 square mile paradise to perfectly suit your needs.
Many of the hotels and resorts in St. Thomas sit right along prized beachfront property, making a ceremony at the beach as easy as stepping outside the front door. The atmosphere you choose remains entirely up to you – opt for the fun loving and laidback Bolongo Bay Resort, or choose the more grandiose, luxurious surroundings of the Ritz Carlton or Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort for an elegant affair. Regardless of how you choose, the hotels generally offer services and wedding coordinators to make your life easier, as well as romantic extra little touches and perks when you book a package. Not only does working with a coordinator make the whole affair simpler, they can also help you navigate the paperwork details, and any other technicalities and legalities that may easily slip your mind. For the honeymoon, hotels also offer water sports, restaurants, bars, spas, entertainment, and more to keep you comfortable and entertained during your first few days together! Below, we’ve listed just a few popular choices with unique settings and/or great wedding planning services to help plan your perfect day.
Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa
Overlooking the beautiful Sugar Bay Beach, this hotel offers comfort and island hospitality to its guests. The Wyndham contains 294 guest rooms with private balconies and gorgeous views, 3 interconnecting pools, hot tubs, and a full spa, all providing plenty of relaxing activities before and after the wedding! Use the hotel as a starting point to explore the rest of the island, or simply lie back on the beautiful grounds and enjoy the beginning of your lives as a married couple.
The hotel offers several choices for your ceremony site -- consider the garden gazebo (up to 50 guests) or an exclusive section of Sugar Bay Beach (up to 30) for an outdoor experience surrounded by natural Caribbean beauty. If you prefer an indoor venue, the glamorous Estate Ballroom seats up to 500. Lastly, two terraces provide stunning views of the Caribbean waters. The popular St. John terrace sits 100 feet above the beach where guests can glimpse St. John and the British Virgin Islands, and the Garden Terrace features huge windows that frame the gorgeous blue Caribbean waters outside.
Couples must pay a $500, non-refundable deposit to reserve their wedding ceremony date, with the entire balance due exactly one month before your wedding. The hotel also offers group rates for 10 or more rooms.

The beaches of St. Thomas capture the relaxed spirit of the Caribbean with their long white strips of sand, inviting blue waters, and diverse marine life. The benefit lies in their close proximity to many of the major hotels in the area – several of the bays sit directly in front of luxury resorts, perfect for wedding ceremonies. This conveniences your guests, as well – no long treks down cliffs or steep stairs to reach the beach, and amenities such as bathrooms, restaurants, and changing rooms are usually available. All of the beaches on St. Thomas are public, but some charge entry and site usage fees. Listed below are some of the more popular choices for weddings.
Magen’s Bay Beach
One of the most popular beaches on St. Thomas, heart-shaped Magen’s Bay Beach on the north coast frames exceptionally calm waters with a mile strip of white sand. Consistently called one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, this area features stunning views, and is arguably about as perfect of a venue as any couple could ask for. Facilities, including a bar, snack bar, restrooms, showers, lifeguards, and changing rooms, are available for the convenience of you and your guests from the hours of 8 AM-5 PM. Because Magen’s Bay is owned and maintained by the Magen’s Bay Authority, you must purchase a $100 pass for weddings.
For a bit more privacy, face the water and head to your right to find Little Magen’s Bay Beach, a much smaller sandy area with fewer people. Be aware, however, that this is somewhat of an underground nude beach, despite the illegal status of naked tanning on the U.S. Virgin Islands. It might be worth taking into consideration before you begin snapping wedding photos.
Website: Magen’s Bay Beach
Sapphire Beach, appropriately named for the pretty blue shade of the water, sits on the eastern side of St. Thomas not far from the Sapphire Beach Resort. A restaurant and bar are available right near the beach, as well as bathrooms and chair rentals through the hotel. Popular for water sports, there is no shortage of interesting things to do and see on this each, including two reefs for snorkeling! It may be better to hold your wedding here early in the day or later at night, as the beach sometimes gets crowded during the day.
Sapphire Beach requires a $200 site fee for weddings, but the cost is waived if you are a guest of the hotel. If you fall in love with this particular beach, consider checking in and sharing your vows, then taking advantage of the sports and exploration opportunities!
Limetree Beach (Bluebeard’s Beach)
Close to the Bluebeard’s Beach Club property on the island’s south side, Limetree Beach is a favorite among many St. Thomas regulars. Edged in palm and sea grape, the white sand slopes down softly to frame mild warm waters, perfect for a beachside ceremony. Besides excellent views, the calm waters draw out many water sports fans, with rentals available from the hotel. Bathrooms, a restaurant, and a bar also sit close by for your convenience. For as beautiful as it is, this beach often draws quite a smaller crowd than expected – it’s an excellent spot for a little peace and quiet, and ideal for wedding ceremonies without hoards of people running through your celebration. The site is available for a $100 usage fee, which is waived if you stay at the hotel.
Another popular St. Thomas beach, Coki Point sits to the east right near Coral World Ocean Park, where it draws large numbers of tourists and locals alike with its scenic beauty. A large reef offers some of the best snorkeling in St. Thomas, hidden beneath beautiful blue water bordered in palm trees and white sand. Because of its beauty, convenient location, and numerous facilities, it draws some of the largest crowds in St. Thomas – food, drink, and souvenir vendors, a dive shop, bathrooms, lifeguards, and lockers bring everything visitors need directly to the beach. Because of its wonderful reputation, it’s also a popular stop for cruise ships, along with Magen’s Beach. If you don’t mind potential crowds, the stunning views may well be worth any other inconveniences. Planning an early morning or later evening ceremony may help avoid the worst of them.
Smith Bay (Lindquist) Beach
A lesser-known beach of St. Thomas, Smith Bay sits further off the beaten track than some of the other resort beaches, and generally stays less crowded. Reachable only by an easily missed dirt road, it’s a great choice if you prefer a wedding ceremony with more privacy in a beautiful, romantic setting, particularly in the early morning or in the evening. There are no facilities on Smith Bay Beach, so consider your needs before planning a wedding there – do you value a peaceful location that offers escape from modern life, or do you prefer the comforts of bathrooms, snack bars, and restaurants? The brilliant turquoise waters and small strip of sandy beach create the perfect setting for a quiet, intimate ceremony (expect a fee of $125.)
Sugar Bay Beach
A small east-side beach with a lot of personality, Sugar Bay sits in front of the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, making the hotel facilities such as bathrooms, restaurant, and bar available to visitors. True to its name, the pristine white sand, perfect for lounging, stretches the length of the beach and turns rockier as you enter the water, with the Wyndham rising from the background behind a border of trees. The hotel provides water sports rentals, and it’s not uncommon to see tiny figures jet skiing or windsurfing far out in the water.
This picturesque beach draws visitors from across the island as well as from the Wyndham Resort, so plan your ceremony time carefully to avoid potential crowds. You must pay a $100 site fee, which is waived if your stay at the hotel.
Lindberg Bay (Emerald Beach)
A calm, quiet beach, Lindberg Bay is flanked by the Best Western Emerald Beach Hotel and the Island Beachcomber Hotel, which means restaurants, drinks, water sports, and bathrooms are all available to visitors. With plenty of seagrape and palm trees for shade, and white sand that goes directly to the edge of the water, the scenery is absolutely beautiful – there’s even a playground at one end for any small children. However, be aware that the airport sits right next door, and the noise from planes taking off and landing is constant in the background. If you feel this might affect your ceremony, you may want to consider a different beach.
Home to the Secret Harbor Resort in eastern St.Thomas, Secret Harbor Beach is bordered with shady palm trees, surrounded by condos, and perfect for a quiet, relaxed beach ceremony. Clusters of rocks along the shore make for great snorkeling, and there are usually children playing out on the anchored float. A bar and restaurant near the hotel complete the idyllic Caribbean picture.
Vessup Bay Beach
For couples searching for undeveloped beaches without hotels, Vessup Beach provides a perfect solution. Popular with the local inhabitants, particularly on weekends, there’s a draw here that comes from the quiet beauty, the tangles of sea grape, and the lack of neatly organized beach chairs and hotel traffic. Explore this beach for lovers, and find the intimacy and privacy you’ve been looking for. Take a celebratory honeymoon swim in the calm blue waters, walk along the shoreline and enjoy the variety of wildlife, or hold your ceremony right among the waves. Except for a water sports booth, expect no amenities here – they aren’t what this location is about!
Bolongo Bay Beach
This south-lying beach offers something for every type of visitor – spend a few hours lounging on the strip of soft white sand, perhaps under the shade of the palm tree border, and then turn to face the ocean. To your right sit rock formations that hold some interesting snorkeling and exploration, and water sports abound from the nearby Bongolo Bay Resort. Whether you feel active or simply want to take in some sun, spend the entire day at this location and head home happy. Bathrooms and a hotel restaurant and bar make themselves available to guests. The area is perfect for a beautiful ceremony, and your guests will delight in the perfect views. Consider booking into the hotel and taking advantage of the catamaran wedding cruise, which carries you across the beautiful blue water and allows you to explore the bay from different angles!
For an intimate and private experience totally unlike the hotels, consider renting a villa for your wedding ceremony and honeymoon. The villas of St. Thomas come in a range of locations – choose one close to the hotspot cities of Charlotte Amalie or Frenchtown, or stay right near one of the beaches far away from the crowds, noise, and shopping. Villas come in a range of sizes, featuring anywhere from one bedroom to enough for an entire wedding party to stay over. Choose from the simple or the elaborate with pools, game rooms, fully equipped kitchens, tennis course, and of course beach access! Full of lovely spots to hold a wedding without any chance of peeping hotel guests, St. Thomas villas create an ideal setting for your destination ceremony.

St. Thomas Synagogue
For a unique and meaningful religious ceremony, consider the St. Thomas Synagogue, steeped in years of a rich and colorful past. The venue features a distinctive sand floor, the same type that once muffled the prayers of the Jewish people during the Spanish Inquisition. Still a very active place of worship today, the synagogue holds events and ceremonies, and is a popular destination for bat and bar mitzvahs and weddings. Surrounded by palm trees, it combines the distinctive, laidback feel of the islands with a formal interior, the contents original and untouched since the most recent building was constructed in 1833. To begin planning your wedding at this location, contact Rabbi Stephen Fisher Moch (typically cost runs around $2,000.)
